AR Program

School and Community Library Cooperate
The Williamsburg Community Library is participating in the Accelerated Reader Program through the cooperation and encouragement of the Williamsburg School Librarian, Michelle Graf. The program is designed to encourage reading and reading growth. The two main components consist of matching readers to books on their reading level, and then testing for comprehension when students have completed reading those books. Readers accumulate points when they pass tests, then use those points to reach reading goals and purchase prizes from the Accelerated Reader store.

Staff at the Williamsburg Community Library have been busy marking books from the program’s reading list with the recognizable bright blue “Accelerated” sticker. This is a long, on-going process, but already patrons can find many books with blue stickers available for check-out. The testing and assignment of points will continue to be handled by the school librarian. This historic addition in community library services is applauded by both staff and the library board.
