The Library Trustees has established the following policy for use of Library computers and accessing the Internet. Patron’s must read and sign the following. Click here to download policy.
INTERNET POLICY
Library staff will assist in basic start up procedures, but users will be responsible for their own operations on the computer. Staff does not provide one-on-one training of computer usage other than library class settings.
RULES OF CONDUCT
Users must comply with the United States copyright laws, Kansas obscenity statues and all other applicable laws. Internet computers will not be used for illegal activity, to access illegal materials, or to access materials, which by local community standards would be obscene. See K.S.A. 21-4301© as amended.
1. No Chat Rooms, Instant Messenger, nor other forms of immediate “real time” communications (this does not include email) will be allowed or tolerated.
2. Users must sign up to use the Internet on a next available basis.
3. Any Installation, downloading, or modification of software is prohibited. This includes movies, or music.
4. Users will respect copyright laws and licensing agreements.
5. Users will not make any attempt to gain unauthorized access to restricted files or networks, or to damage or modify computer equipment or software.
6. Users who incur charges for printing or disk purchasing require prompt payment. $.10 per sheet and $ 1.00 per disk
7. Computer stations will not be saved for persons who are not in the immediate vicinity when their name is called. Telephone reservations will not be taken.
8. Computer users must end their sessions after ½ hour and leave the computer when asked to do so by authorized Library staff or access to the computer may be revoked for 1 month or more.
9. Contact Library staff if a problem occurs. No computer swapping allowed.
10. It is up to the staff’s discretion as to which computer station will be assigned to a patron. One viewer may accompany.
11. Computer users will respect the privacy of other users and will refrain from attempting to view or read material used by others.
12. Users MUST read and sign the INTERNET POLICY before computer use can be permitted.
13. Annual Renewal is REQUIRED for computer use.
14. Users under the age of 16 MUST HAVE PARENTS SIGN A CONSENT TO USE THE INTERNET.
TERMINATION OR PROHIBITION OF USER ACCESS
Library employees are authorized to terminate any user’s access session or to prohibit a user from subsequent access sessions for a month or more from the date of informing the user of that action, given cause to believe that the user has failed to comply with the Internet Acceptable Use Policy and or Rules.
Internet users whose access session has been terminated or prohibited will be given information concerning the process to protest the action and/or request that Internet Access privileges be reinstated.
The Library Director will issue a formal letter stating the violation committed and length of time the patron will be denied computer access.
INTERNET AGREEMENT
I hereby state as a computer uses, or parent of computer user, of the Williamsburg Community
Library that I have carefully read and understand the Williamsburg Community Library Internet Policy and Rules of Conduct and agree to obey them fully.
